Buddy List

Tap the Buddy List icon on the AOL main screen to display the Buddy List screen, which allows you to keep track of your active instant message (IM) sessions and online buddies. If you are offline when you tap the Buddy List icon, the Sign On screen displays.

Setup Tab

The Setup tab allows you to add, delete or rename buddies and/or groups. Tap the Online tab to see which buddies are online.

Adding a Buddy to your List

You can add buddies (friends, family members, and coworkers who are AOL, CS2000, or other registered AOL Instant Messenger (SM) users) to your Buddy List. Whenever your buddies sign on, you can see them in your Buddy List and send them messages instantly.

Note: You can block other users from seeing you on their Buddy List by changing your privacy preferences.

1. Tap the Setup tab in the Buddy List screen.
2. Tap the folder to which you want to add your buddy.
3. Tap the Add button.
4. In the Enter Name screen, type the screen name of the buddy you want to add; if Buddy is not already highlighted, tap it.
5. Tap OK.

Remember to enter just your buddy’s screen name, not your buddy’s full e-mail address. For example, johndoe, rather than johndoe@aol.com.

Adding a Group to your List

1. Tap the Setup tab in the Buddy List screen.
2. Tap the Add button.
3. In the Enter Name screen, enter the name for the group you want to add; if Group is not already highlighted, tap it.
4. Tap OK.

Deleting a Buddy or a Group from your List

1. Tap the Setup tab in the Buddy List screen.
2. Tap the buddy or group you want to delete.
3. Tap the Delete button. A confirmation message will display. Tap Yes to delete this buddy or group. Note: When deleting a group, all buddies in the group will also be deleted.

Renaming a Buddy or a Group in your List

1. Tap the Setup tab in the Buddy List screen.
2. Tap the buddy or group you want to rename.
3. In the Enter Name screen, enter the new name.
4. Tap OK.

The Online tab

The Online tab lists your buddies who you have added to your Buddy List who are currently online. Once they are signed on, you can exchange Instant Messages with them. Initially, three empty groups appear on these tabs: Buddies, Family, and Co-Workers. Groups in the Buddy List window are initially shown expanded, displaying all your buddies in each group. You can toggle the display mode between expanded and collapsed by tapping the down arrow () to the left of each group name.

1. Active Instant Messages: display at the top with the names of all buddies with whom you currently have an active IM session. An icon () displays next to a buddy who has sent you a message that you have not yet seen.
   
2. Online Buddies: Tap the down arrow(s) () to display the names of your buddies who are currently online in each category. The "door open" () and "door close" () icons briefly display next to a buddy who has recently signed on or off.
   
3. Instant Message: Tap to activate the highlighted session or to send a new instant message.
